If you're going snowboarding, the right clothing and gear is essential to having fun while avoiding freezing to death or hurting yourself. If you're new to snowboarding, here's a list of the snowboarding clothes you'll need:

A helmet - What, you don't want to wear a helmet? Do it anyway, so you don't crack your skull open if you land on it! Make sure it fits comfortably, and that you can still easily move your head around (but the helmet shouldn't be loose). Also, you will most likely be wearing a cap on your head for warmth, so try the helmet on with a cap before making your purchase.

Another necessary part of your snowboarding clothes is boots. We probably don't need to say a whole lot about boots. You need to keep your feet warm and dry and they need to fit comfortably, or you'll be miserable. Try on several pairs and move around in them a bit before choose.

Here's another logical piece of the snowboarding clothes puzzle - warm clothes. Dress in layers and keep whatever is next to your body a natural fabric or a fabric made especially for wicking moisture away from the skin. Your coat should be warm (obviously) and water resistant. Your snowboarding pants should be the same and breathable. Fit is important - don't wear anything that is overly tight. You need to be able to move around freely.

To complement your snowboarding clothes, you will want some extra protection in the form of padding. Elbows and knees should be protected with pads to help reduce the effects of spills. Some snowboarding pants are available with lightweight padding in the hip and tailbone area too.

You can buy snowboarding clothes at any retailer that offers snowboarding equipment. Specialty shops and sporting goods stores should have a wide range of clothing, boots, coats, pants, gloves, pads and helmets ready for you to choose from. If you are into looking coordinated, you will have no trouble putting together snowboarding clothes that express your personality (or love of green, or blue stripes, or....). Stay warm and stay padded.
